With Seven Lucky Gods and the God of the Sea, perhaps we need a little break from divine intervention. Let's cultivate something else:

If we reach $2,750k all backers will get the Jinmenju Monster, including its figure and Summer Season card.

Jinmenju resin figure. Jinmenju resin figure.

The Jinmenju is a supernatural tree whose terrifying fruit appear to be human heads. Where it grows, it draws away the resources of anything around it. When the Jinmenju is Summoned to a Province, their Clan steals 1 Coin and 1 Ronin from each opponent with any figures in that Province.

Und dann gleich noch ein Kami:

It's finally time to honor the rising Sun itself!

If we reach $2,880k all backers will get the luminous Amaterasu, including her figure and Kami card.

Amaterasu resin figure. Amaterasu resin figure.

Amaterasu is the goddess of the sun, bringing great honor to her subjects. The Clan with the highest Force at her Temple during each Kami Turn immediately climbs to the very top of the Honor Track.

The player with the most influence with Amaterasu can choose to Consume one of their worshipping Shinto to activate Amaterasu's Kami Power: During a Harvest Mandate, if you win the Harvest Reward of a Province you may automatically kill one local figure belonging to each Clan that has lower Honor than you.

GAME SET-UP AND THE KAMI TURN

At the start of each game you're going to randomly choose Four of the Seven Kami, laying their tiles across the top of the map at the Shinto Temples. These are locked in at the start of the game and do not change during its course.

ab104159c7687bae42fc3c31af745a13_origina

As you can see, just below the Kami Temples, you have the area for placing your Political Mandates. After the third, fifth, and seventh Mandates have been played each round you have a Kami Turn. During the Kami Turn you're going to check each of the Temples, in order from left to right, and whomever has the most Force at each one (ties of course broken by highest Honor) gains the benefit of that particular Kami.

The actual Kami of course have a deep impact on gameplay, but also the order of the Kami has a substantial impact as well. For example, if Amaterasu is the first Kami in order (who boosts you to Highest Honor if you claim her Temple) then that can change the course of the rest of the Kami Turn as well - so keep an eye on order! It's important!

And that's the basics to how the Kami and Kami Turn actually function. No, it's not complicated at all, but it does add a wealth of tactical options to the map.

So now that you know how they work, let's take a look at each of the Kami and some tips surrounding their use:

THE SEVEN KAMI

6a5a6576f33e5d641b6713c99c12f3b3_origina
  • Ability: Immediately move to the highest Honor position on the Honor Track.

So with Amaterasu you'll become the top dog of Honor, meaning you're going to win any ties that happen. Aside from the general usefulness of this, some strategic option available to you are as follows: (As mentioned above) this can change the outcome of the rest of the Kami Turn if Amaterasu is in one of the first Temples. Use this to your advantage to steal Temples out from under your opponents (HONORABLY!).

Another factor to consider is suddenly becoming highest Honor just before War- which is a huge advantage as suddenly its going to force your opponents to the offense- you'll win by default (assuming ties) meaning your opponents must now allocate resources to win... A sneakier ploy as well is to remember that if you and your Ally are alone in a Province, you don't actually fight - the winner is determined by straight Force, with Honor as the tiebreaker (hint hint).

  • Ability: You may immediately buy 1 Season Card.

More options are always welcome, and with Tsukuyomi you get what is essentially a free Train Mandate just for you. This not only allows you to pull ahead of everyone else with the Upgrades and Monsters but take some choice options that others might have wanted to use themselves. Bonsai especially loves Tsukuyomi as they purchase everything for free, so this is a straight win for them.

A tip is to gauge whether you think players will choose to Train early in the Season. If it doesn't seem so, then claiming Tsukuyomi will grant you first choice among that Season's cards. Playing a Train Mandate just before the Kami Turn will also allow you to (potentially) quickly double-up on choice cards to assist you later in the Season.

b7fb36d9b742a93d93250cdb6364cdf9_origina
  •  Ability: Immediately perform 2 Moves.

The Marshal Mandate is very important in the game - moving around the board is usually very limited and getting from one end of the map to the other can be hard. There are exceptions to this, of course (Dragonfly, Strongholds, etc) but Raijin assists in that area immensely. Note that with Raijin's ability you can choose to either Move 2 figures to adjacent provinces, or Move 1 figure twice, covering a lot of ground!

Early round it will help you set up positioning to Harvest, late round you're prepping for War, so there is no bad time to utilize Raijin's blessing to help you move. I especially want to call important to the late round move, as getting two moves just before War starts can change the landscape considerably and completely ruin your opponent's strategies that they've been building up all season.

04aabeedaa571794e5b333b33fac7aa1_origina
  • Ability: Gain 1 Victory Point for each of your Strongholds.

Ryujin is your go-to for those who are looking for non-combat means of winning the game. As we've pointed out before, you're not going to win without claiming at least a few provinces, but through use of Virtues you can pull ahead as well - Ryujin will expedite that strategy with the potential to gain additional Victory Points three times aper Season.

Turtle Clan, who already wants lots of Strongholds, and Bonsai, who buy them for free, especially love Ryujin since they harmonize so well with their existing strategies. Of course, all clans should like more Strongholds, and seeing as how Ryujin just scales so well throughout the entire game as you build them, and you can see why they're an attractive choice. Do not underestimate a constant trickle of Victory Points! While the other Kami's boons are more immediate, Ryujin's will help you win the entire game!

9ddf86d4d3083b805d2314380cd8e6c9_origina
  •  Ability: Immediately Summon 1 Bushi to any Province.

Susanoo plays a good part in a lot of strategies, as so many cool effects trigger off of Summoning. Path of the Ninja could potentially trigger up to 3 additional times per round (assuming you have that many Bushi in reserve, which... If you do, it means something went way bad for you last Season). Path of Sword would allow double-summons essentially... And these are just two examples from the Spring Season. Of course, Susanoo's ability even without additional combos is just plain good. More guys on the map is how you win Wars. Plus, unlike a normal Recruit Mandate, Susanoo allows you to place your Bushi in ANY Province, so if you're having trouble moving your figures where you want them to be, you may try Summoning them straight there.

In the early round, use Susanoo to mobilize your forces, in the late round, reinforce areas where you need it. In either case, Susanoo makes it so you won't have to worry about Recruit Mandates so much, so use that to your advantage and Harvest, Train, or heck, Betray!

92f64eee9496c8579dcd9327a4099fba_origina
  •  Ability: Gain 2 Ronin

Ronin are the great equalizers in combat. By securing the "Hire Ronin" War Advantage you'll add your total number of Ronin Tokens to the Force in the Battle (Note: These are not expended in any way, you just add your total). So if you've claimed all three Hachiman bonuses' throughout the round that means, by itself, you can add +6 to any War you're in, which will most likely secure you a victory.

It's also important to remember that Ronin, like Coin, go away at the end of each Season, so you'll need to rebuild your forces up each Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Aside from Hachiman himself, the only other way to acquire Ronin is via the Harvest Mandate (or by playing the Koi Clan), so he will be well sought after by players struggling to claim Harvest bounties.

Use his military might to help you crush your foes!

  • Ability: Immediately gain 2 Coin.

Everybody likes more money. I could end this summary with that sentence and you would all understand how powerful Fujin is, but let's talk about him for a bit.

Since Coin is just such a universally useful resource, Fujin is often hotly contested. I mean, by himself he has the potential to grant a player six additional Coins per Season - and that's a staggeringly large amount. Remembering this is important though, as since he will be so hotly contested you could also just ignore him and focus on the other Kami, allowing your opponents to fight among themselves for his blessing.

In the early Season, extra Coin won't really help you that much, as you'll probably have enough to get what you want should Training or Marshaling (Strongholds) come up- but you can always stash that Coin away. As the Season progresses you'll get a better feel for the map when War is looming. Players may have Harvested, so the extra Coin isn't needed, or you may find yourself at a lack of funds for the coming Battles, in which case taking Fujin's Temple should be a priority.

Don't get greedy, and remember that Coin is a means to an end, not the end itself.

Let's embark on the quest to unlock a true warrior Kami:

989c8aa6376f520888c8d3b6e5b757fd_origina

If we reach $3,010k all backers will get the powerful Hachiman, including his figure and Kami card!

Hachiman resin figure. Hachiman resin figure.

Hachiman is the god of war. As you've learned in the previous update, worshipping at his Temple may grant a Clan 2 extra Ronin tokens each Kami turn. Going to war with a Ronin army at your disposal can make all the difference.

The player with the most influence with Hachiman can choose to Consume one of their worshipping Shinto to activate Hachiman's Kami Power: At the end of a Harvest Mandate, the player may convert any number of their Ronin tokens into twice the number of Coins. Hachiman knows that having a huge Ronin army is worthless if you are unable to spend enough Coins to guarantee you win the Hire Ronin War Advantage!

Ich bin mit 1$ dabei. :D
